Missie first appeared as a child in the first book of the Love Comes Softly Series as was portrayed as a child in the movie, Love Comes Softly, as well.
It is obvious that the movies that have been made are very different from the books, but still portray the same message. Janette Oke did a wonderful job
with the books as did Michael Landon, Jr. with the making of the movies based on the books.
As stated, Missie first appeared as a child in the beginning. In the first movie, she was portrayed by actress Skye McCole Bartusiak. Missie showed a lot
of her spunk in this. She was still so grief stricken over the loss of her mother, she did everything she could to get rid of her father's new wife, Marty, whom
he had married in a marriage of convenience to help Marty out after Marty's husband was killed until Marty could go home to the East in the spring. But Missie
and Marty soon developed respect for each other and grew to love each other. When the time came for Marty to leave and go back home in the East, Missie was devastated.
But after Clark, Missie's father, found out that Marty had wanted to stay, he went after her and Marty came back home with Clark and Missie and Missie once again had
a Mama she loved.
By the next book/movie in the series, Missie had become a grown woman. In the movie, she was portrayed by actress January Jones. In this movie, Missie is swept off
her feet by a railroad surveyer, Grant Thomas, whom she thought was the one, until she got to know Willie LaHaye. He came along when Clark had an accident and saved his life.
Willie stuck around to help out around the Davis farm until Clark got well enough to get on his feet again. In the midst of all this, Missie found out what kind of man Grant Thomas
really was and she told him she had no interest in sharing her life with a man who didn't think the adversity of life was something to get through together. He had too much faith in
his money. In the process of everything else, Willie overcame some things of his past, and he and Missie fell in love and at the end of the movie they married.
By the beginning of the next movie, Willie and Missie had been married for two years and were on their way to a town called Tettsford Junction to buy some land and finally start a
ranch of their own (Willie was a cattle rancher). In this movie, Missie was prtrayed by actress Erin Cottrell. It was in this movie that we really got to see what kind
of young woman Missie had grown up to be. She was kind, considerate, very loving, and yes, spunky too. When a trio of men tried to rob her and Willie of their savings, Missie's spunk came out
and she had no problem telling them robbers what to do. Missie was very loving toward others and was more concerned about her family and other people more than herself. At the end of this movie,
Missie became a mother to her and Willie's first born son, Matthew Isaiah LaHaye.
