In this heartwarming sequel to Love Comes Softly, Dale Midkiff and Katherine Heigl return as
Clark and Marty Davis in Love's Enduring Promise, based on Janette Oake's novel and the second in
the Love Comes Softly series. This movie was directed by Michael Landon Jr. himself. He also wrote the teleplay
along with Cindy Kelley.
Clark have Marty have built a wonderful life for themselves and for their
son Aaron (played by K'Sun Ray), their son Arnie (played by Logan Arens) who has been born since
Love Comes Softly, and their grown daughter Missie (played by January Jones) who is still living at home and is
now a teacher.
An accident occurs at the beginning that renders Clark unable to tend to the farm and provide for his family so everyone
pitches in to help out. Help also comes from an unexpected source, a man called "Nate" (played by Logan Bartholomew).
In the midst of it all, Missie has encountered a young man (who came along before Clark's accident) named Grant (played by
MacKenzie Astin) who becomes more than just a friend. Grant seems to sweep Missie off of her feet, but things become
complicated when "Nate" unexpectedly appears. Missie finds herself being pulled two different directions and having to choose
what the thoughts of her heart say.
Meanwhile, Nate is facing a battle of his own, one he has faced since he was a boy. One night, he was out in the woods with
his little brother, Mattie, setting some traps. The hour got away from them and they could not find their way back home in the
dark and tragically, Mattie froze to death in the night. Stricken so badly with grief, Nate's mother took off and being overcome
with guilt, Nate ran off on his own. With Clark's help, Nate comes to terms with everything. He visits his Pa for the first time
in all those years, but things don't go well as his Pa just gets angry. So Nate just decides it best to leave again. He leaves,
but he returns shortly and he tells Missie he didn't want to make the same mistake and he reveals his true identity of Willie Nathan
LaHaye. Willie says goodbye, but Missie persuades him to stay til the harvest so he could collect his pay
Meanwhile, Missie has broken off the relationship she had with Grant adn she and Willie and discover that something more than friendship
had formed between them. Willie tells Missie that he loves her and she in turn says the same. It as them Willie asks Missie to marry him.
They marry and on he day of the wedding, Willie discovers that his Pa was watching from a distance and goes to him and the two reconcile.
At the end, time comes for Missie to leave her family and life on the prairie and head west with her husband. It was a heartbreaking goodbye for
the whole family, but Clark reminds Missie to remember "His" promise of no tears.
